Cognitive Dissonance in Technology Adoption: Exploring Resistance and Acceptance among University of Cape Coast Students | Chapter 4 | Language, Literature and Education: Research Updates Vol. 3

The rapid advancement of information technology (IT) has revolutionized educational systems worldwide, providing tools that enhance teaching and learning processes. This study investigates the role of cognitive dissonance in influencing technology adoption behaviors among undergraduate students at the University of Cape Coast. As educational institutions increasingly rely on technology to enhance learning, understanding the psychological and social factors that affect students’ willingness to adopt technology is critical. Cognitive dissonance—an internal conflict that arises when individuals hold contradictory beliefs or experience discomfort from conflicting information—is examined concerning technology acceptance, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and resistance among students. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through surveys and focus group discussions with undergraduate students across various academic disciplines. Many students experienced cognitive dissonance when their beliefs about technology’s value for academic and career success clashed with their actual experiences, such as difficulties in usage, inadequate training, and limited access. Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) were major contributors to cognitive dissonance. Quantitative analysis, employing structural equation modeling (SEM), revealed that cognitive dissonance significantly affects students’ perceptions of technology’s usefulness and ease of use, which are key determinants in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Thematic analysis of qualitative data further highlighted the role of peer support and positive social influences in mitigating dissonance, enhancing acceptance. Students surrounded by peers who embraced technology often felt more confident, while those facing skepticism from their social circles were more likely to resist technology use. The study identifies critical barriers to effective technology adoption, including high perceived complexity and lack of confidence in using digital tools. To address these challenges, it recommends that institutions focus on reducing cognitive dissonance by providing tailored support and training, designing user-friendly interfaces, and fostering a positive technology culture. The implications for the literature are significant, as this study highlights the need to integrate cognitive dissonance into existing technology acceptance models to better predict user behavior and adoption rates. In conclusion, cognitive dissonance plays a vital role in shaping students’ attitudes toward technology, suggesting that targeted interventions addressing both psychological and social dimensions are essential to enhance technology acceptance and integration in academic settings. By exploring cognitive dissonance within the TAM framework, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of technology adoption in higher education and provides actionable insights for improving student engagement with digital tools.

A Comparative Study about Cognitive Emotional Regulation between Working and Non-working Women | Chapter 8 | Recent Trends in Arts and Social Studies Vol. 7

 The objective of the study is to find out the cognitive emotional regulation among working and non working women. The hypothesis of the study is that there will be a significant difference between working and non working women in the dimensions of cognitive emotional regulation. The study is about the cognitive emotional regulation among working and non-working women. The total number of study participant is 90. 45 working and 45 non-working women (aged 30-55) were selected for this study. Purposive sampling method is used for slecting sample. Cognitive emotional regulation scale used for the purpose. The study shows that there is a significant difference in cognitive emotional regulation in working and non-working women. The working women show more positive and negative cognitive emotional regulation than nonworking women. Working women showed more positive and negative cognitive emotional regulation to solve their problem.  Working women scored high in “put into perspective” and “catastrophaizing”. It is evident from the results that both working women and non-working women employ the negative variable "self blame" to a fair extent. They utilize both the positive variable "Positive Reappraisal" and the negative variable "Rumination" in approximately equal amounts to help them deal with their problems or as a coping mechanism.

Assessment of Primary Health Centre Information System among Health Staff | Chapter 14 | Technological Innovation in Engineering Research Vol. 4

Since this health centre offers fundamental healthcare services, one of which is connected to coverage or monitoring data requirements, primary health centres unquestionably need regional health records. Ngaglik I Public Health Center in Sleman is one of the healthcare facilities that has already installed SIMPUS (an application of management information system for public health center). Clinical information systems offer the ability to enhance patient satisfaction, lower operational costs, and improve the performance of healthcare facilities. To describe SIMPUS's operation at the Ngaglik I Public Health Center and gauge user comprehension of the application's Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This quantitative study employed an analytical correlational research design and the survey technique. 50 respondents were included in the sample, who were chosen by a straightforward random sampling procedure. SEM-PLS analysis was used to analyse the data, together with the TAM model and Smart-PLS software. To determine if a measuring device is accurate in relation to any desired outcomes, a validity assay is conducted. When a measurement result agrees with the objectives, it is considered to be legitimate, and the opposite is true. The indications for the degree of validity typically examine the convergent validity and discriminant validity of assessment instruments using a rule of thumb. The link between the factors for perceived ease of use and job relevance was modest statistically (p-value = 0.818). The correlation between output quality and perceived ease of use was marginal (p-value = 0.28).The users' jobs' relation to SIMPUS had no impact on how simple it was regarded to be to use. The output quality had no impact on the user's perception of ease of use. The aim to employ the SIMPUS display was unaffected by the screen's design. The use of the system has nothing to do with the desire to use. The use of the system has nothing to do with the desire to use. On system utilisation, the facilitation condition had no impact. System utilisation was impacted by perceived ease of use and usage purpose. Perceived usability and intent to use are influenced by the ability to show outcomes.
