Psycho-Social Determinants of Neurorehabilitation Outcomes: A Narrative Review and Practice Framework | Chapter 6 | Medical Science: Recent Advances and Applications Vol. 3

This paper delves into the crucial role of psycho-social factors in neurorehabilitation, underscoring the necessity of comprehensive approaches for enhancing outcomes. This narrative review explores the impact of acquired brain injury (ABI) on emotional well-being and the sense of self, highlighting the importance of psychosocial factors in rehabilitation outcomes. It discusses holistic strategies, psychological and social influences, cultural and ethical considerations, and the evaluation of psychosocial factors. Noteworthy discoveries highlight the significance of psycho-social elements like resilience, social support, and adaptive capacities in shaping rehabilitation outcomes, the efficacy of holistic strategies that encompass various facets of well-being, the impact of social connections and familial interactions, and the call for evidence-based practices and interdisciplinary teamwork. Suggestions for further research encompass the ongoing exploration of holistic approaches, the development of evidence-based interventions, and the resolution of obstacles hindering the implementation of comprehensive care. This review stresses the integration of psycho-social factors in neurorehabilitation to elevate overall outcomes and the quality of life for individuals with neurological disorders. Finally, it addresses practical applications in clinical settings and future directions in neurorehabilitation.
