Increasing Madura Cattle Productivity through an Integrated Breeding Area Model | Chapter 11 | Research Advances and Challenges in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 2

Aims: The purpose of keeping Madura cattle is distinguished meat production, cultural tourism, and as a symbol of prestige (Sonok and frequency) for breeders. Sonok cattle and frequency will indirectly improve the genetic quality of Madura cattle because farmers always make selections.

Study Design: Laboratory and survey method was used in this study.

Place and Duration of Study: The research material of Madura cattle at a breeding location in Sumenep Regency and Pamekasan Regency, Madura Island. The study was carried out between January until December 2023.

Results: Data 2023 total Madura cattle 22.83% of the East Java cattle population and 6.79% of the national population. Madura cattle expenditure from East Java in 2023 is 2.09%. Livestock expenditure must be controlled so the population is stable and the best livestock does not go out to maintain production stock. Increasing productivity through an integrated seed source area model with technology implementation can be increased.

The goal is to increase the production and genetic quality of livestock. So far, the selection of the best Madura cattle is based on the selection of farmers based on body size without recording. The morphometric approach indicates production performance accompanied by molecular analysis, reproductive efficiency, mapping feed potential using satellite images, and Artificial intelligence (AI). This approach was carried out to initiate the formation of seed source areas as breeding locations for pure-breed Madura cattle. The superiority and purity of Madurese cows deserve to be maintained. This advantage is the essential capital for increasing productivity. In the future, it can reduce feeder cattle imports and frozen meat.
