Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that presents with various signs and complications. Natural items, medicinal plants, and synthetic anti-diabetic medicines are used in the management of various disorders. Medicinal plants are less expensive and have less adverse effects than synthetic anti-diabetic medications. Clinical trials have shown that important herbs, including Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre), bitter melon (Momordica charantia), Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia) and fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum), have strong anti-diabetic properties. Ethnomedicinal Approach against Human Cytomegalovirus Infection: A Search for Alternative Therapy | Chapter 8 | Research Advances in Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 8

Human cytomegalovirus is a ordinary opportunistic contamination that can infect immunocompromised and immunosuppressed individuals in addition to neonates. There are currently very few clinically approved medications on the market for use in cure. Although they are all incredibly persuasive against active HCMV contaminations but each of these medications has a certain amount of aftereffects which can leads to weighty health complications to the subjects. In search for the alternative approach to these artificial drugs antiviral substances presented from natural resources are urgently wanted as because on account of less cytotoxic impact as their synthetic equivalents. The medicinal mushrooms have proved to be a honestly intriguing alternative in this regard. Utilizing these compounds might be a reasonable first line of defense against because traditional ethnomedicinal substances have existed a rich source of bioactive fragments with various pharmacological actions, including antiviral action. This chapter is herewith comprising with the curious work of those promising ethnomedicinal money to understand the new frontier of HCMV research.
