Clinical Efficacy of Bibhitaki Vatak in the Management of Pandu Roga with Respect to Iron Deficiency Anemia | Chapter 12 | Recent Updates in Disease and Health Research Vol. 7

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is prevalent in India due to various factors including dietary deficiencies and chronic blood loss. Pandu, a Pitta predominant Tridoshaja vyadhi mentioned in Ayurveda, shares clinical similarities with IDA. This clinical trial was aimed to assess the efficacy of Bibhitaka Vatak, administered at 500mg twice daily with takra (butter milk) for 30 days followed by a 60-day follow-up period. Twenty patients diagnosed with Pandu (IDA) were included in the study. Symptomatic improvements were observed, including significant reductions in Panduta (pallor), Shrama (breathlessness), Aruchi (anorexia), and Daurbalya (debility). Moderate improvements were noted in Gatrashoola (body ache) and Bhrama (vertigo), while Arohanaayasa (exertional dyspnea) showed suggestive improvement. Highly significant improvements were observed on objective parameters such as Hb%, PCV, MCHC and TIBC after treatment. The findings suggest that Bibhitaka Vatak holds promise as a therapeutic intervention for Pandu, addressing both symptomatic and objective markers associated with IDA.

Hemiconvulsion Hemiplegia Epilepsy (HHE) Syndrome with Iron Deficiency Anemia among Children | Chapter 4 | Disease and Health Research: New Insights Vol. 7

Two cases of hemiconvulsion hemiplegia syndrome with iron deficiency anemia have been presented. Hemiconvulsion hemiplegia epilepsy (HHE) syndrome is a rare complication of prolonged focal seizures in children and is usually idiopathic but may be associated with structural, infective, traumatic, and degenerative diseases. The pathophysiology of this syndrome still remains poorly understood and the long-term cognitive outcomes are still unclear. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the brain in the acute stages characteristically shows gross cerebral edema in the contralateral hemisphere, which later turns into atrophy. Two cases with initial presentation as left-sided focal status epilepticus, later developing left-sided hemiparesis with iron deficiency anemia, have been presented. This is the first association of iron deficiency with hemiconvulsion-hemiplegia-syndrome illustrating the importance of testing for iron deficiency and neuroimaging in each case of status epilepticus. More importantly, these cases also raise the possibility that deficiency in iron could be a contributing factor in cases of HHE. IDA may be a potential trigger to develop seizure and subsequently status epilepticus which may eventually lead to a catastrophic entity like Hemiconvulsion-Hemiplegia Syndrome.

Iron Isomaltoside 1000 in the Management of Iron-Deficiency Anemia in Patients with Obstetrics and Gynecology | Chapter 11 | Advanced Concepts in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 10

Culture: Pregnant mothers are more susceptible to iron deficiency emptiness (IDA), which is still a main global health concern. IDA is guide unfavorable results for the mother and the infant. Therefore, iron status before birth may be evaluated by a variety of laboratory assays, ultimate commonly secondhand being serum ferritin (SF) and red body fluid (Hb). Treatment for IDA frequently includes intravenous iron.Aims: To assess iron isomaltoside 1000's effectiveness in acting IDA in patients accompanying obstetrics and gynecological conditions.Matters and Methods: The study included having 50 of something IDA-positive significant women from the start of the second trimester as far as a few days before beginning. Over at least fifteen record, each of the ladies got 1000 mg of iron isomaltoside 1000. The following tests were used to decide the efficacy: full cell volume (PCV), mean corpuscular book (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular red body fluid concentration (MCHC), polymorphs, lymphocytes, eosinophils, monocytes, cell with hemoglobin distribution width (RDW), antitoxin total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), antitoxin ferritin, serum iron, and reticulocytes count. Severe iron imperfection (ID) is defined as ferritin levels inferior 30μ g/L, whereas temperate-moderate ID is defined as ferritin levels between 100μ g/L and more 30μ g/L.Results: Mean age of women accompanying IDA was 35.14±7.183 which ranged from 22 to 53 age. Significant bettering in mean hemoglobin (8.64±0.85 vs. 12.86±0.97, P <0.001), platelet count (115.11±161.22 vs. 3.13±0.68, P <0.001), polymorphs (70.9±34.36 vs. 50.62±6.39, P = 0.0001), lymphocytes (32.24±9.70 vs. 39.68±7.64, P = 0.0001), PCV (31.40±4.46 vs. 39.72±2.56, P = 0.023), MCV (74.51±8.23 vs. 87.14±3.05, P = 0.021) , MCH (23.71±3.77 vs. 31.62±2.10, P = 0.012), MCHC (27.56±2.81 vs. 34.90±2.30, p=0.001), RDW (18.48±3.02 vs. 13.94±1.62, P = 0.004), TIBS (397.1±74.53 vs. 273.86±31.55, P = 0.024), antitoxin ferritin (32.19±78.18 vs. 85.96±21.74, P <0.001), serum iron (46.40±14.89 vs.  108.32±21.38, P <0.001) and reticulocytes (1.84±0.79 vs. 1.07±0.29, P <0.001) after 27th epoch treatment accompanying Iron isomaltoside 1000 compared to baseline.  Iron Isomaltoside 1000 was too able to advance severe ferritin level to temperate-moderate ferritin level in a span of 27 days. Conclusion: Iron isomaltoside 1000 is a useful cure for gynecological and obstetric patients. On standard IDA alternatives, a notable improvement was noted.

Role of Blood Group Antigens in the Occurrence of Some Common Diseases | Chapter 10 | Research Highlights in Disease and Health Research Vol. 5

It is immediately well documented that the blood group exhibits few relation accompanying some diseases like an internal or external sore, gastric carcinoma, cardiovascular afflictions, HIV infection etc, Considering the massive impact on such connection the present study is designed to learn whether aforementioned kind of relation is about between blood group and three widely widespread diseases like emptiness, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus (DM) in our country. If a such relationship maybe established then it would enhance very easy to think the type of population which is more likely or resistant to anemia/ hypertension/ DM and accordingly help us to recommend specific population for taking deterrent measures to eradicate or minimize the incident of these deadly afflictions in such population. So the objective of the study is to find out the life of any equivalence between blood group and these usually occurring diseases like emptiness, hypertension, DM which can guide to recommend the appropriate preventive measures in countering the occurrence of these diseases in aforementioned populations. From the set of the experimental protocol, it was raise that ABO antigens have some role in the incident of anemia, inasmuch as the occurrence of hypertension and DM is not related to blood group antigen antigens however the multicenter study with big population size is necessary before coming to a definitive decision.

Determining the Effect of Iron Deficiency Anemia on HbA1c Levels in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus | Chapter 7 | Research Developments in Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 5

The present study will estimate HbAlC levels in iron-inadequate anaemic individuals accompanying fasting blood glucose levels inferior 126 mg/dl. An indication of a patient's glycemic rank over the previous three months is haemoglobin A1C (HbA1c). When iron inadequacy anaemia is present, HbA1C levels rise. A total of 50 patient of diabetes mellitus with iron deficiency blood deficiency with regulated plasma glucose levels were captured as a cases and 50 iron-sufficient non-feeble healthy things were taken as a controls. Medical history was taken from all colleague and data of HbA1c, ferritin, FBS, red body fluid, peripheral besmirch examination, red cell indications were collected from lab. HbA1C level (6.90 ± 0.81%) were increased in iron-imperfect individuals as compared to controls. In women, HbA1C (7.08 ± 0.78%) were more elevated than men. HbA1C concentration was significantly greater in iron deficient feeble individuals the one had less than 126 fasting red body fluid glucose level. In the study, HbA1C levels were demonstrated in accordance with the age, sex and plasma sweet substance level.  A positive equating found middle from two points iron deficiency anemia and raised HbA1C levels, especially in the reserved diabetic women and individuals bearing FBS between 100-126 mg/dl. It is main to check for iron deficiency anaemia before changeful a patient's diabetes mellitus treatment plan. Study observations maybe attributable to the evidence that iron deficiency blood deficiency should be considered before changing the treatment of diabetic sufferers.

Use of Globifer Forte (Haem Iron) Tablets against Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA) during Pregnancy| Chapter 6 | Current Overview on Disease and Health Research Vol. 9

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of Globifert forte in pregnant women with IDA.

A lower level of iron in the human body causes anaemia, which is defined as a reduction in the number of red blood cells (RBCs) or haemoglobin. This study was conducted to assess the efficacy of Globifert forte (oral iron intake) in treating pregnant patients with iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). A relatively new medication called Globifert Forte is taken orally to treat anaemia and IDA. Globifert forte oral administration has some restrictions. Blood transfusions are only to be used in the most severe cases of symptomatic anaemia as a last resort.

This is a prospective, single centre, open and non-comparator study in Lamis Clinic and Said Hospital, Misurata, Libya. We included a total of 100 pregnant ladies with IDA for a time period of 12 weeks. In this prospective study 100 pregnant women were involved. All of them were given Globifert fort tablets during the study period of 12 weeks.

Hb level have reached the target level within a short period of time with very minor side effects or discomfort. Side effects of oral iron supplements had not been seen during the study time such as gastrointestinal effect, thus showing the safety of the drug in the pregnant women and its acceptance from the patients.

Globifert forte has been found very suitable, effective and convenient in treatment of IDA during antenatal care. This study revealed significant improvement of anemia as Hb level and its symptoms in pregnant women given calculated dose of Globifert forte tablets. It was safe, tolerable and well accepted.

Iron Deficiency Anemia and Learning Capacity in Children | Chapter 14 | Challenges in Disease and Health Research Vol. 8

The prevalence of iron deficiency (IDA), which reduces cognitive performance, work performance and durability, in developing and underdeveloped countries is high. Children represent one of the groups most affected for this disorder, leading to decreased cognitiveness, delayed development of psychomotors, changes in behaviour and physical development. Different studies have addressed the association between the IDA and child development, but on this issue there is no consensus. In this context, this review highlights the results of the principal published studies on this topic in an effort to provide all participants in this discussion with insightful comments.
