Strength and Ductility Performance of GFRP Laminated RC Beams with Discrete Steel Fibres | Chapter 02 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 5

Many studies have found that reinforced concrete (RC) beams reinforced with externally bonded fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates/sheets lose ductility as a result of increased stiffness, resulting in debonding type failure without any warning. The goal of this study is to investigate the strength and ductility of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) laminated RC beams with varying volume fractions of discontinuous steel fibres (Vf = 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5). Load and deflection at yield and ultimate stages, ductility, crack-width, and failure mechanism were among the metrics studied. According to experimental results, the addition of steel fibres improves the strength and ductility of FRP-strengthened beams at all volume fractions utilised in this study. To forecast the reaction of all beams, full-scale beam models based on finite element analysis were built using ANSYS software, and the load-deflection behaviour of the models matches well with the experimental data.

Study on Biomagnetism and Prostate | Chapter 1 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 13

The expansion of malignant tissues boosted ionic motions, resulting in higher-intensity magnetic fields than benign tissues. The biomagnetic activity of prostatic carcinomas was shown to be lower in our research than that of breast carcinomas. Prostate carcinomas have a lower angiogenic activity than other cancers, which could explain these findings. The possible diagnostic utility of biomagnetic activity measurements in evaluating prostate lesions is discussed in this chapter.

Nonlinear Analytical Approaches for Prediction of Alternans Mediated Cardiac Arrhythmias | Chapter 3 | Highlights on Medicine and Medical Science Vol. 5

Cardiac alternans, or changes in action potential duration (APD), are thought to be a precursor to lethal tachyarrhythmias like ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation, which can lead to sudden cardiac death. Linear methods for detecting alternans onset and suppression have had limited success, owing primarily to the presence of cardiac memory, in which APD prediction at any instant allegedly requires knowledge of multiple previous APDs and diastolic intervals (DIs) to successfully characterize the current cardiac state. Considering the non-linear relationship The transition from steady state to alternans has been successfully captured using non-linear analytical methods such as bifurcation theory, principal component analysis, and chaos control techniques between the APDs and preceding DIs. This chapter provides an overview of non-linear analytical approaches used to predict the onset of alternans, which have the potential to translate into preclinical modalities capable of alternans detection and control, preventing fatal tachyarrhythmias and the transition to sudden cardiac death. We present a preclinical evaluation that makes use of high resolution optical imaging. mapping of two novel techniques for predicting the onset of alternans based on bifurcation analysis and eigenvalue decomposition Furthermore, we find a link between alternans' spatial evolution and bifurcation parameters and dominant eigenvalues, suggesting a potential marker for alternans estimation.
