Low Carbon Tourism: Strategies for Environmental and Sustainable Development | Book Publisher International

Tourism is a significant driver of global economic growth, cultural exchange, and social development. However, conventional tourism practices contribute substantially to environmental degradation, particularly through carbon emissions, high energy consumption, and ecosystem disruption. In response to growing environmental concerns and climate change challenges, Low Carbon Tourism (LCT) has emerged as a sustainable approach that minimises ecological impacts while maintaining economic and social benefits. This book is informed by a structured review of scientific literature, international policy reports, and global tourism datasets, supported by comparative case study analysis. This concise methodological approach ensures that the insights and recommendations are evidence-based and internationally relevant.

This book explores the principles, strategies, and practical applications of LCT, situating it within the broader framework of sustainable tourism and sustainable development. It examines the environmental impacts of tourism, including carbon footprints, resource overuse, and biodiversity loss, and presents strategies to mitigate these effects. Key strategies discussed include energy-efficient operations in accommodations, promotion of low-emission transportation, eco-tourism initiatives, waste and water management, and raising environmental awareness among tourists. The book emphasises the role of multiple stakeholders—governments, private sectors, local communities, and tourists—in implementing sustainable tourism practices. Case studies from national and international contexts demonstrate successful applications of LCT, illustrating how destinations can achieve environmental preservation, economic benefits, and community engagement simultaneously. In addition, emerging tools such as smart tourism technologies, digital monitoring systems, and low-carbon mobility solutions are highlighted for their potential to accelerate decarbonization across the tourism value chain. Challenges such as policy gaps, financial constraints, and limited awareness are also addressed, with recommendations for effective solutions. By integrating theoretical insights with practical strategies, this book provides a comprehensive guide for academics, policymakers, tourism operators, and community leaders committed to sustainable tourism development. Ultimately, promoting low-carbon tourism is essential not only for reducing environmental impacts but also for ensuring the long-term viability and resilience of tourism destinations. The adoption of LCT represents a timely and necessary approach to harmonise tourism growth with environmental sustainability, contributing to a greener, more responsible, and sustainable future.

Environmentally Sustainable Tourism Marketing in Emerging Economies: A Case Study of Bangladesh | Chapter 2 | New Advances in Business, Management and Economics Vol. 3

Background: Integrating environmental sustainability into tourism marketing aims to minimize adverse impacts while maximizing economic and socio-cultural benefits.

Purpose: This study evaluates the effects of environmentally sustainable tourism marketing in Bangladesh, focusing on economic, socio-cultural, environmental, eco-tourism, and ecological aspects and the role of government activity.

Methodology: Using a quantitative methodology, surveys from 200 respondents, including tourists and stakeholders in the tourism sector, were analyzed with SPSS to assess relationships between independent and dependent variables. Hypotheses were tested to examine these correlations.

Findings: Environmentally sustainable tourism marketing influences economic growth, socio-cultural development, and ecological awareness, with eco-tourism and government activeness. The most significant variables (eco-tourism, ecological awareness, and government involvement) influence environmentally sustainable tourism marketing. Most respondents noted that it increases employment, supports local economies, conserves heritage, and promotes ecological balance, although challenges like environmental degradation and the need for active government involvement persist.

Social Consequences and Implications: Sustainable tourism improves local quality of life, fosters better tourist-local understanding, and promotes cultural preservation, emphasizing public awareness and community participation. Findings suggest that policymakers and marketers can prioritize sustainability (developing eco-tourism sites and policy framework, implementing eco-tourism certification, providing incentives for sustainability practices) for long-term value.

Research Limitations: The study’s focus on Bangladesh may limit generalizability. Further research is needed across different contexts.

Originality: This research provides empirical evidence from an emerging economy, offering insights into increasing sustainability in tourism.

Is the Organizational form the Business Federation the Answer for Firms in Eco Tourim in South Africa? | Chapter 3 | Insights into Economics and Management Vol. 12

The objective of this paper is to demonstrate how the business federation model may meet ecotourism demands in South Africa during a time of social turmoil, violence, economic decline, and illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and Covid-19 that are wreaking havoc on the industry. We show how, in a worldwide world, ecotourism businesses may become more competitive by eliminating poverty and generating economic rewards at the same time by acting locally. We also show how management can take practical efforts to be on the cutting edge of ecotourism.
