Factors Influencing the Potential of Biogas usage in Thyolo District, Malawi | Chapter 07 | Current Advances in Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences Vol. 3

 Because alternate fuel sources are underdeveloped in poor nations, most households utilise firewood or charcoal as their major source of cooking and heating. The goal of this research is to look into the aspects that influence biogas energy's potential as an alternative energy source. The study used a mixed method research design to see if political, economic, social-cultural, and technological factors influence the usage of biogas as a renewable energy source in one of Malawi's southern regions. The results revealed that biogas has a considerably high potential (p0.05) for use, with over 66 percent. The findings also revealed that social, cultural, political, economic, and technological factors had no significant impact on the area's usage of biogas as an energy source (p>0.05). However, the study found that additional factors such as the failure of existing digesters, high initial investment costs, and a lack of awareness of biogas technology all had an impact on the area's biogas potential. As a result, education and awareness campaigns should be expanded in order to educate communities about biogas technology, its benefits, and how to repair non-functioning digesters. More research is also suggested to determine the degree of technical skills and non-functioning digesters in the area.

Detailed Study on Design and Construction of Fish Smoking Kiln | Chapter 10 | New Ideas Concerning Science and Technology Vol. 4

 The aim of the design and construction of the fish smoking kiln was to upgrade the existing fish smoking kiln. The kiln is constructed of a metal frame made of angled iron on which the whole part has been mounted. The handle, through the chain and sprocket, controls the speed of the ventilation fan. To allow for proper ventilation, the charcoal housing is made of perforated metal sheet. By turning the handle that drives the fan to improve natural ventilation, the kiln is manually operated. The output of the machine was measured using fish samples (African mud fish) smoked at an average humidity content of 11.46 percent over an average time period of 5 h, and the average final weight of the dried fish was 0.9827 Kg. It has been found that it is possible to hold the fish for at least two months before showing signs of spoilage. It can also be inferred that the application of less toxic insecticides should be followed by fish that should be kept in cartons.

Analyzing the Aspects of Profitability of Charcoal Production and Marketing in Ibarapa Zone of Oyo State Nigeria | Chapter 14 | Current Strategies in Economics and Management Vol. 5

This study analyzed the profitability of charcoal production and marketing in Ibarapa zone of Oyo state using a structured questionnaire. A multistage sampling technique was adopted to select one hundred (100) respondents for the study. The descriptive statistical method and budgetary analysis were used for data interpretation. Charcoal marketing is dominated by middle or old age mostly females (71.7%), the business are funded from personal saving and support from cooperative society. The finding reveals that 48.5% of respondent had no formal education and economic analysis showed that marketers require ₦50,000-₦500,000 as working capital with a resultant profit of ₦300,000-₦500,000 per annum and charcoal marketing efficiency was 1.32. In Conclusion, charcoal marketing is profitable with net returns of ₦58,000 on 200 bags sold.
