Study of Diffusion Pairs in the Metallic Alloy Systems | Chapter 10 | Chemical and Materials Sciences: Developments and Innovations Vol. 7

The development of human civilization is inconceivable without progress in the advancement of its material base, in which metals and metal alloys play one of the leading roles. The article is a collection of ideas and experimental results that unequivocally indicate that modern ideas about metallic alloys should go away to the history of alloys. Here the results of experiments obtained on three binary one ternary alloys have been presented. In this article, three binary alloys Ni75Mo25, Fe50Cr50, and Ni88Al12, as well as two ternary Ni65Mo20Cr15 and Ni53Mo35Al12 alloys, as examples, have been considered. Here, 26 binary and 7 ternary alloys, some examples of which are given in this article, have been studied. It was noted that to obtain true alloys, one should avoid not only adding a large number of alloying components (usually more than two) but also adding a small amount of any component (usually 3% or less). With such alloying, one must proceed from the principle that the amount of the alloying component would be enough to form diffusion micro-pairs in the alloy, i.e. so that particles containing this component formed. Briefly, the main conclusions of the experiments are as follows: Interatomic chemical interactions exist in all metal alloys at temperatures of both solid and liquid states. Chemical bonds in alloys have an amazing property to change their sign at a certain temperature (there is a phase transition "ordering - separation"). The reason for this transition is the electronic transition "ionic bond ↔ covalent bond". The process of formation of new phases in binary alloys begins with the formation of atom clusters, in ternary alloys – with the formation of diffusion micro-pairs during the melting of an alloy. Such cardinal differences between the existing now notions about the nature of alloys and those revealed in this work should definitely lead to changes in the technology of heat treatment of alloys, to changes in the binary phase diagrams and to a change in the principles of creating new alloys.

Field Ion Microscopy of Metals and Alloys after Intense External Influences | Chapter 6 | Current Innovations in Chemical and Materials Sciences Vol. 2

The results of the study of qualification of the crystal form of metallic fabrics after exhaustive external influences on the nuclear-spatial level are bestowed. The aim of the work is to explain the effectiveness of the use of field issuance and atomic probe procedures for the study of nanomaterials and nano-structural states emergent in volumes of metals and alloys subsequently powerful outside influences, including dissemination exposure. Atom Probe Tomography (APT or 3D Atom Probe) is the only matters analysis system that offers extensive potential for both three-dimensional image and atomic-level synthetic composition calculations (resolution of about 0.1–0.3 nm exhaustive and 0. 3–0.5 nm horizontally). The original results show the chance of three-dimensional rebuilding of the elemental arrangement of mechanically combined alloys for the study of modification of the tiny structure. The styles of irradiation for the establishment of amorphous states in the near-surface capacities of platinum have happened determined. It has happened established that the wonder of amorphisation of metals in surface volumes happens up to the sample insight of 12 nm at the increase of fluence to 1018 ion/cm2 and the specified strengthes of irradiation. It has happened determined that the type of the crystalline form of the boundary region of even defects in metal fabrics directly depends on the type of outside influence.  The width of the border regions at hardware partition boundaries has existed found to change within limits 0.8 and 1.5 nm depending on the type of passionate external impact at which point they were exposed.

Physical Properties of LaxSc1-xSb Alloys: FPLMTO Approach | Chapter 7 | Research Aspects in Chemical and Materials Sciences Vol. 6

We premeditated the structural, photoelectric and optical properties of the LaxSc1-xSb having three of something alloy with 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 by utilizing the first-principles full potential uninterrupted muffin-container orbital (FPLMTO) arrangement based on the generalized slope approximation (GGA96). The mesh constants, bulk modulus, photoelectric band structure, mass of states, and optical features such as dielectric function, refractive index, and extinction cooperative for (x=0.25, 0.5, and 0.75) are calculated and considered. Our results are in good agreement with feasible data in the research. It is observed that for x=0.75, the compound is from the direct band gap materials nearly zero middle from two points M and Γ direction. It has been erect that the La0.75Sc0.25Sb system is no doubt a semiconductor despite that two together binary (LaSb) and (ScSb) are metals in the rocksalt phase. The bulk of states calculations displays that the lower part of the conduction b and is completely occupied by Sc-3d and La-4f states and the above part of the broadcast band is occupied by the La-5d state while the lower constituent the valence band is ruled by the Sb-5p state.
