Biocide Chlorinated Compound for Inhibiting Sulfate Reducing Bacteria | Chapter 7 | Current Research and Development in Chemistry Vol.3


This chapter deals with biocides that can be used in sulfate reducing bacteria applications.
Preparation of bicyclic technologies containing chlorine atoms and/or ether groups in aromatic rings
can be regarded as a significant method for the construction of bicyclic systems and for the production
of additives. The Diels-Alder reaction (1,4 cycloaddition) is one of the most important forms of
cycloaddition reaction. Ether of the allylic type (dienophilic)
p-allyl bromo phenol was prepared and its
structure was proved by molecular weight, infrared spectra, refractive index, and density
determination. This adduct was obtained through the reaction of 1,4 cycloaddition of hexa chloro
cyclopentadiene (HCP) and the prepared dienophile. The reaction occurs without the use of solvent,
catalysts or any compound elimination. To determine the optimum conditions for the reaction, the
effect of variations in temperature, initial molar ratio and duration of reaction were studied. The
optimum conditions achieved were the recorded reaction temperature of 140°C, the initial molar ratio
diene: dienophile was 3:1 and the reaction time was 6 h. The maximum yield was 78% under these
optimum conditions. The prepared adduct as sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) confirmed very high
biological effect.
