Studies on Population Dynamics of Fisheries of Goa Coast | Chapter 9 | New Visions in Biological Science Vol. 5

 In fisheries science, population dynamic resources are one of the most important components. Population dynamics describes the processes through which a population grows or shrinks over time as a result of births, deaths, immigration, and emigration. It's the starting point for figuring out how population diversity is evolving, as well as issues like habitat destruction, predation, and the best harvesting rates. The purpose of this research was to investigate the population dynamics of economically important fish species along the Goan coast. Preliminary data for stock assessments was acquired from the web site, which provide information about resource availability and are crucial for management since they also include information on mortality from fishing, interactions with other species, and environmental factors. This research used data from 15 different fish species, with mackerel, tuna, and sardines being the most popular. The maximum growth rate was 0.188340 for Chirocentrus dorab (silver bar), while the lowest was 0.00003392 for Sardinella longiceps (sardines).

Investigation and Assessment of the Exploitation Strategies of the Shrimp Fishery of the Gulf of California | Chapter 8 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 1

 

Shrimp is the most valuable fishery resource in Mexico, representing almost 40% of the total

production landed, with revenues of more than US $ 132 million per year and with more than 30,000

direct and indirect jobs. Three penaeid shrimp species account for >95% of the wild stock of the

Pacific coast. The blue and brown shrimp of the southern Gulf of California are exploited to their

maximum capacity, while white shrimp is considered over-exploited. The stocks were evaluated with a

simulation model. In current fishing the age of first catch is overexploiting juveniles, therefore,

increasing the age of first catch from 4 to 5 months is one of the recommendations. Then two fishing

scenarios were tested, the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) and the MSY/fisher. On the impossibility

to address particular policies for each species, it was concluded that for the MSY scenario, 1000

permits per season would fulfill most of requirements, in the second case (MSY/Fisher), by reducing

the current number of boats to 530, would achieve the required goal.
