Challenges Faced by Teachers and Students at Apayao State College When Using Modular Distance Learning Model: Basis for Intervention | Chapter 1 | Research Perspectives of Microbiology and Biotechnology Vol. 4

The main objective of this study is to identify the problems encountered by the teachers and students in the implementation of modular distance learning modality in the BEEd Department of Apayao State College – Luna Campus, Philippines. Distance learning became the immediate response of academic institutions to sustain the learning continuity of the students. This learning delivery modality has different types that include online distance learning, TV or radio-based instruction, and modular distance learning. The study used a descriptive phenomenological approach to identify the problems encountered by teachers and students in implementing modular distance learning, as well as the possible solutions to the identified problems. The study was conducted among the teachers and students of the Bachelor of Elementary Education Department (BEEd) of Apayao State College – Luna Campus in the Philippines. Four (4) BEEd program mainstay teachers and ten (10) BEEd students were approached to request their voluntary involvement as key participants in the study. Data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach to find any patterns in the participants’ responses by transcribing, organizing, and coding. Findings revealed four (4) themes of problems related to the preparation of printed learning materials; management in the distribution of printed learning materials; retrieval of students’ activities and outputs; and checking of students’ activities and outputs identified by teachers. Using digital technology to learn the lessons, such as recorded instructional videos and tutorial sites or links, may be beneficial. The quantity and level of difficulty of the activities to be given can be determined by considering the students' competency and ability to complete the tasks. Students also identified two (2) themes of problems they had in using modular distance learning that are related to the submission of their activities and outputs, as well as their capability to learn independently. School administrators can use the findings of this study to develop interventions, programs, and activities to address issues in the implementation of the modular distance learning modality. Schools may conduct relevant training, seminars, and workshops for teachers and students to upgrade their knowledge, skills, and competence in implementing modular distance learning modalities.

Exploring Joy and Challenge: Fourth-Grade Students’ Perceptions of English Writing in Tashicholing Dungkhag, Bhutan | Chapter 3 | Language, Literature and Education: Research Updates Vol. 7

This study explores fourth-grade students' perceptions of English writing in Tashicholing Dungkhag, focusing on emotional, cognitive, and contextual influences.

Using a phenomenological qualitative approach, 14 students—two each from seven government schools—were purposively selected based on their active participation and interest in English writing lessons. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using Braun and Clarke’s (2021) thematic analysis framework.

Four primary themes emerged: enthusiasm for writing, mechanical challenges, emotional complexity, and the role of teacher support. Students expressed both joy and anxiety, highlighting the dual impact of writing as both a creative outlet and a site of struggle. Positive reinforcement and empathetic instruction significantly influenced their engagement.

Addressing a gap in EFL writing research in Bhutanese primary education, this study emphasises emotionally responsive pedagogy, increased use of low-stakes writing, and teacher development centred on constructive feedback and encouragement, while offering practical recommendations to enhance primary education in Bhutan and similar contexts.

Health Care Seeking Behaviour Among Pregnant Women in Rural Western India: A Qualitative Study | Chapter 9| An Overview of Disease and Health Research Vol. 3

Background: One of the most important aspects of maternal health services is antenatal care (ANC).

Aim of the Study: The perceptions and care-seeking behaviour of pregnant women living in rural Western India are examined in this study, as is their knowledge of pregnancy-related complications.

Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was carried out in 2022 with 74 pregnant women who were randomly selected from the ANC register and were in their third trimester. Using a pretested guide that covered eight thematic areas, data were collected through in-depth interviews. Thematic coding was used to analyse the transcriptions of the interviews.

Results: The majority of women understood the value of regular ANC visits. However, little was known about specific complications like pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes. Although transportation obstacles and reliance on spouses for decision-making were observed, government health services were favoured because they were accessible and reasonably priced. Families provided support, and there was little dependence on traditional healers. A few participants voiced concerns about the results of deliveries, especially caesarean sections.

Conclusions: The study draws attention to the disparity in general ANC awareness and specialised knowledge regarding pregnancy complications. Maternal outcomes can be improved in rural Western India with sustained community involvement and education provided by primary healthcare systems.

Building-Level Support for Technology Integration In-Service Teachers: An Overview | Chapter 7 | Research Highlights in Language, Literature and Education Vol. 5

This study investigated in-service teachers' ideas concerning building-level support for electronics integration into teaching content areas. A qualitative pattern and a transcendental phenomenological approach were used to thoroughly inspect the experiences from the participants' outlooks using demographic surveys and tractor trailer-structured interviews. According to the study's judgments, in-service teachers had miscellaneous experiences with support for electronics integration at the building level. In-duty teachers expressed concerns about the construction's support levels for seamless electronics integration in the classrooms, citing lacking web-based interconnectivity for exploiting available educator implements for their discipline, proper adaptation of equipment finishes used by the school locality, and a lack of computer resources for executing seamless technological changes in the classrooms. A leader the one actively supports the situation of the lecturers is needed for cooperative construction-level technology-driven supplyings.
