Topical Gel Loaded with Fluconazole Niosomes: Formulation and Evaluation Study | Chapter 6 | Challenges and Advances in Pharmaceutical Research Vol. 5

Designing and evaluating topical gel-loaded fluconazole niosomes is the aim of the project. Fluconazole, a macrolide antibiotic, is used to treat a number of delicate bacteria. Niosomes can boost a drug's skin penetration and lengthen its duration in the stratum corneum and epidermis while decreasing its absorption throughout the body. Because they may change pharmacokinetics and bioavailability as well as reduce toxicity, niosomes play a significant role in the administration of medications.

It was determined during the study that the sample is a pure substance. Fluconazole (pure medication) acquired Fourier transform infrared (FTIR 8400s, Shimadzu Japan) spectra were examined. The procedure of potassium bromide discs was utilised.

improved formulations With vesicle diameters of 845.6 nm and 164.2 nm, respectively, and zeta potentials of -10.2 mV and -46.4 mV, the formulation for FNS5 and FNT4 produced with Span-60 and Tween-60 is stable. The improved niosomes were then thoroughly assessed for zeta potential and vesicle size after being added to gels made of carbopol 934 and guar gum.

According to the study, drug retention, penetration, and release times were all prolonged when drugs were trapped in niosomes.

Candidemia in an Immunocompromised Patient | Chapter 13 | New Horizons in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 11

Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis and subsequently acute renal damage were evident in an immunocompromised patient with a documented history of cerebrovascular accident (CVA), long-lasting right-sided hemiparesis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hypertension (AKI). Guillain Barre syndrome subsequently struck him.

Plasmapheresis was initially performed after haemodialysis. Following hemodialysis, the patient experienced many episodes of vomiting as well as limb weakness. On Day 6, a bloodstream infection with Candida kefyr and a urinary tract infection with Enterococcus faecalis were detected. A culture revealed the growth of Enterococcus faecalis. We describe a severe case of C. kefyr bloodstream infection. The patient made a full recovery and was successfully released with ongoing follow-up for the next six months.
