The First Reported Case of Extensive Cutaneous Larva Migrans in Yemen | Chapter 8 | Medical Science: Trends and Innovations Vol. 10

Cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) is the most common helminthic dermatosis, typically found in tropical regions. It is clinically diagnosed when its characteristic serpiginous, migrating tracks are observed. CLM is most frequently caused by larvae of the dog or cat hookworm, Ancylostoma braziliense, which can penetrate and migrate through the host’s epidermis by releasing degradative enzymes. Diagnosis is generally based on the characteristic clinical presentation, and empirical treatment with oral anthelmintics, such as albendazole and ivermectin, is usually initiated. This report details the case of a 47-year-old man with a 2-month history of an itchy, serpiginous eruption on his back, abdomen, buttock, and thigh. The patient was successfully treated with oral albendazole 400 mg/day for three days. This is the first documented case of CLM in Yemen. This case demonstrates the need for improved medical knowledge and public education regarding the mode of infestation (skin contact with sand containing larvae of dog or cat hookworms), preventive measures (avoiding walking barefoot in sand contaminated with the feces of dogs and cats), and treatment of CLM.

Skin Manifestation of Covid-19 Infection | Chapter 6 | Clinical Manifestations of Covid-19: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach

 

COVID-19 has been shown to have various manifestations across systems but the cutaneous manifestations serve as indispensable clues to the occurrence, and worsening of COVID-19 as well as useful markers for prognosis.

Maculopalular manifestations of COVID-19 have been reported to have a higher frequency compared to other manifestations. The severity of COVID-19 can be predicted by the acroischemia in COVID-19 while livedoid eruptions have also been reported to have the highest mortality.

For prompt diagnosis, better management and prognosis; intentional attention to the skin through the involvement of Dermatologists is key to better health for the patient.

Case Study of Cutaneous Mercury Granuloma | Chapter 3 | Advancement and New Understanding in Medical Science Vol. 9

Human contact with mercury has been ongoing for centuries and has been previously considered a legitimate means of treating different Cutaneous and systemic conditions. Cutaneous mercury granuloma is rarely encountered. Clinically it may pose difficulty in diagnosis. Here, we report a 23-year-old male presented with erythematous, nodular lesions over the forearm and anterior aspect of chest wall. X-ray showed diffuse deposition of metallic material (mercury) in the soft-tissue upto subcutaneous plane in the left forearm and chest wall. Metallic mercury in tissue sections appear as dark black, opaque, spherical globules of varying size and number. They are surrounded by granulomatous foreign-body reaction. It is composed of foreign body giant cells and mixed inflammatory infiltrate composed of histiocytes, lymphocytes, plasma cells, and few eosinophils.

Study of Prevalence & Vigilance of Adverse Cutaneous Reactions in Hairdye Users: Cosmetovigilance | Chapter 7 | Recent Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 4

 Cosmetics are dispersed substances that are applied to the skin to clean, smell, or improve one's appearance. Despite the fact that the majority of cosmetics adverse responses are small and mainly include skin changes, the number of documented adverse reactions is extremely low, owing to underreporting. Cosmetic product regulations are primarily concerned with the safety of products that may be used by large groups of healthy people.

Methods: We interviewed 500 participants and gathered questionnaires about hair dye use, the prevalence and features of adverse cutaneous reactions, and reporting of following steps taken by the volunteers in order to fulfil the study's purpose.

The response rate was approximately 78 percent. A total of 360 persons were found to have a history of hair dye dermatitis. Edematous skin reactions are seen in 65% of cases, allergic dermatitis is shown in 49% of cases, and both types of reactions are present in 30% of cases.

Despite the fact that our experience with reporting unfavourable aesthetic impacts is restricted to a small geographic area, it emphasises that a reliable and effective monitoring system should be in place.

A Rare Case Report of Acute T-cell Lymphoblastic Leukaemia Presenting with Cutaneous Involvement in a Child | Chapter 5 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 1

 T-cell lymphoblastic leukaemia with primary cutaneous involvement is uncommon in children. We describe a 6-year-old girl who was hospitalised to our hospital with several skin lesions. She appeared pale and frail. There was lymphadenopathy all over the body. A complete blood test revealed a white blood cell count of 216,000/mm3. A peripheral blood smear revealed 80% lymphoblasts. Flowcytometry demonstrated that 96 percent of the blastic cells in the bone marrow had the immunophenotype and morphological features of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (T-ALL). The treatment procedure for ALL BFM -95 remission induction was initiated. After two months of cytotoxic therapy, the skin lesion remained the same. After four months of treatment, her symptoms became more severe, and she died.
