Algae as Bioindicators of Environmental Health in Protected Areas |Chapter 8 | Innovations in Biological Science Vol. 4

Bioindicators encompass organisms or biological responses that offer valuable insights into the health and resilience of ecosystems, allowing us to comprehend the cumulative impacts of environmental changes. The chapter highlights the value of algae as bioindicators for evaluating the health of ecosystems, particularly in protected areas, and emphasizes their function in efficient management.

Local People’s Perceptions of the Sumava National Park in the Czech Republic over a Span of Ten Years (1998-2008) | Chapter 4 | Current Approaches in Science and Technology Research Vol. 2

 The Sumava National Park (NP), Central Europe's largest protected area, is both fascinating and worrisome (historical development, conflicts between regional development and landscape protection). The attitudes of local park residents were surveyed over a ten-year period in order to measure the success of the Park's policies. In August of 1998 and August of 2008, two polls (N = 181 and N = 200) were undertaken. The surveys had 43 questions divided into three categories: (a) socio-demographic data, (b) environment and nature conservation, and (c) sustainable tourism and travel. development of the local area When the results from 1998 and 2008 were compared, the residents of the Park thought that life in the Park was getting better and that the nature conservation strategy was either “optimal” or “stricter.” The most common local concern, according to the studies, is the loss of work possibilities. Subjects were categorized into four opinion groups ranging from "optimists" to "grumblers" in a cluster analysis based on impressions of (a) the Park, (b) the environment, and (c) the Park Administration. The most "positive (optimistic)" group found minimal link between the Park's existence and job losses, whilst the most "negative" group found a big link. The Park management was successful not just in controlling the issue, but also in leveraging it to strengthen the social atmosphere and acceptance of the NP among the residents.

Conserving the Hidden Nature: An Overview on Conservation Efforts in United Arab Emirates (UAE) | Chapter 9 | Recent Research Advances in Biology Vol. 1

 

The aim of the study is to document the threats faced by reptiles with other species in UAE and the

conservation efforts done by Barari Natural Resources (BNR). The study was conducted by reviewing

the factors affecting the existing wildlife in 34 different sites managed by Barari Natural Resources in

the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from March to July 2014. The data was collected

using a combination of methods which included participatory observations and group discussions with

the local community including the residents, farmers, foresters, wildlife rangers/staff, and field

workers. The findings/ results of the study indicate that the major threats faced by existing herpetofauna

and other associated wildlife in the study area were off-road driving (25%) followed by desert

safari (19%), human habitation (16%), illegal poaching (13%), human interaction (11%), habitat

degradation (9%) and disturbance (7%). Majority of people (44.80%) believed that off-road driving and

desert safari are the most common threats to these reptiles and other wildlife, whereas 32.20%

people thought that human interference and illegal poaching are the main cause of threats to reptiles

and mammals, while 23% people didn’t know about the threats to herpeto-fauna. According to our

findings, 89.20% of people liked wildlife including reptiles and mammals whereas, 10.80%

respondents were indecisive and did not show much interest.
