The Clinical Efficacy of Management of Dacryocystitis by Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy with and without Silicone Stenting- A Comparative Study | Chapter 03 | Issues and Developments in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 6

Between May 2014 and June 2015, a prospective study was conducted at the department of otorhinolaryngology at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, which included patients of all ages. A total of 40 patients were studied, all of which had Epiphora, Acute-on-chronic Dacryocystitis, and common canalicular block due to nasolacrimal duct(NLD) obstruction. Those with visible lid laxity, post-traumatic lid and bone deformities, Dacryolith, Traumatic blockage, Malignancy suspicion, and previous radiation therapy were excluded.

The success rate of endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy with Silicone stent was 90% in our study, while the success rate of endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy without Silicone stent was 80%.

The difference in outcomes, however, is statistically negligible (p>0.05).
