Determination of Uranium Content in Selected Soil Samples from Ajaokuta, Kogi State, Nigeria | Chapter 4 | Contemporary Perspective on Science, Technology and Research Vol. 7

This work present the Uranium (238U) content in soil samples collected in Ajaokuta from some villages was been determined. Naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) refer to natural radionuclides, predominantly 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, 40K and others, which arise from natural processes rather than human activities. They are ubiquitously present in various components of the natural environment, such as rocks, soil, water, atmosphere, as well as flora and fauna. The measurement of the soil Uranium activity concentration were made using a multi–channel pulse height analyzer (Camberra series 10 plus) coupled to a 76.2mm x 76.2mm NaI (TI) scintillation detector. 2.93) The mean Uranium content in the analyzed samples was found to be (44.26 Bq/kg which is higher than the world mean value of 35Bq/kg. The results were in good agreement with others for soils from region which is considered as normal or slightly high in radioactivity level. The present 238U content interval determined in terms of 238U activity concentration for soil samples is according to the results reported in the literature compatible with those found for areas considered as normal or slightly of natural radioactivity.

Analysis of Physicochemical Properties of Soil Samples from Basmati and Non-basmati Rice Growing Areas in the Jammu Region, Jammu and Kashmir, India | Chapter 3 | Emerging Issues in Agricultural Sciences Vol. 4

 The main objective of the study search out assess the condition of soil in context to allure physicochemical characteristics like, available Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), Potassium (K), Magnesium (Mg), Organic Carbon (OC), pH, Salinity, Electrical Conductivity (EC) and to determine the concentration of micronutrients and burdensome metals in the rhizosphere of the soil samples collected from the fields of basmati and non-perennial aquatic grass types of RS Pura, Samba and Kathua regions of Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The rhizosphere soil samples were calm from the fields of two rice differences such as Basmati 370 (basmati type) and SJR-5 (non-perennial aquatic grass variety) at blooming stage of the crop. The soil samples were processed and evaluated based on their physicochemical characteristics. The adulthood of rice fields in the Jammu domain had average overall results for soil pH level, OC, N, P, and K composition that were favourable for swamp rice help; nevertheless, the ideal pH and NPK levels should be inspected on a regular base in accordance with the likely approvals to ensure best choice rice harvests.
