Digital Storytelling: An Innovative Approach to Teach and Learn English Language | Chapter 24 | Digital Crossroads: Integrating Humanities, Science and Technology Edition 1

According to educators in the twenty-first century, technology can be a useful instrument for teaching the next generation and facilitating the achievement of learning objectives. Digital storytelling has demonstrated its promise as an effective teaching and learning medium that can engage both teachers and students. Students and teachers can benefit from using digital stories. Teachers can create digital storytelling to generate interest and engagement for students of the new technology. Teachers can convey conceptual knowledge in a more comprehensible manner by using digital storytelling. Students can learn the importance of subjective language from digital stories, which also provide them the chance to experiment with other ways of analyzing or responding. These narratives have the power to ignite the emotions of students and inspire them to study disciplines they are enthusiastic about. Teaching and learning the English language through digital storytelling is a creative method which can enhance the self-confidence of students. As a pedagogical tool, it encourages student participation in the learning process and assists the instructor in igniting and guiding the creativity of students. Digital storytelling is a great technique for creating a new environment where students can learn the English language. The researcher's goal in this study is to learn how digital storytelling is being used in the classroom and how students perceive it. Young students can be effectively introduced to reading, writing, and digital literacy through digital storytelling. Students of all skill levels are able to improve and enhance their writing abilities through the process of creating a digital story.

Digital Storytelling: A Study of Malayali Tribal Elegy Narratives | Chapter 15 | Digital Crossroads: Integrating Humanities, Science and Technology Edition 1

Digital storytelling has emerged as a powerful medium for preserving and disseminating narratives that hold cultural, historical, and emotional significance. This study explores the integration of digital technologies in storytelling, focusing on the elegy within the oral traditions of the Malayali tribes of Kolli Hills, Tamil Nadu, India, and how digital storytelling techniques, can help their narratives to be brought to life to the world and be preserved for future generations. Storytelling is a part of narratives used by many cultures around the world in expressing feelings and emotions to their own community, society or world. With the advent of technology, storytelling became digital as well. Digital storytelling uses Information Technology or other technologies to share stories or bring light to their culture/voices to the world. Some underrepresented Tribal communities worldwide use narratives to share their life stories, folktales and cultural activities with the world through digital storytelling. The research examines how digital platforms can preserve these traditions for future generations while providing insight into their cultural richness. Methods include the analysis of previous research and the documentation of oppari songs to understand the essence of these narratives. Results indicate that digital storytelling not only safeguards these oral traditions but also provides a platform for global visibility. The discussion highlights the implications of digital storytelling in preserving cultural heritage and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

Exploring Digital Storytelling as a Pedagogy Approach: Literature and Language Teaching | Chapter 10 | Digital Crossroads: Integrating Humanities, Science and Technology Edition 1

This paper discusses an exploration of the effect of digital storytelling as a pedagogy approach for secondary school-level English literature and language teaching. Twenty students from Sarada High School, Narsipatnam, who are pursuing ninth standard, form the sample of the study. The main objective of the study is to increase engagement and motivation in learning language and literature and provide Alternative Assessment Opportunities (AAO) as well. A review of the literature is performed to look into the previous studies on alternative assessments in literature and language education by using a qualitative research approach. By exploring this from a mixed-methods research design based on quantitative assessments combined with qualitative analysis, this paper gives insight into the impact on vocabulary acquisition, narrative structure understanding and total language fluency through digital storytelling. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and NVivo are the tools employed for the study. The results aimed to identify some of the key benefits of using digital storytelling in the education system.  In contrast, a few drawbacks are associated with the need to train teachers on the use of technology and issues related to the assessment of students with different access to technology. Some gaps have been identified along with suggestions for using digital storytelling to address them within literature and language curricula. This paper is a contribution to the ever-growing body of literature in support of digital storytelling as a transformative education tool that prepares students for the challenges of 21st-century communication and literacy.

Memory, Resistance, and Adivasi Land Rights: A Digital Narrative Analysis of Pada | Chapter 9 | Digital Crossroads: Integrating Humanities, Science and Technology Edition 1

Forgetting fuels fascism, remembering ignites resistance." This study examines how the 2022 Malayalam film Pada utilizes digital storytelling to shape collective memory surrounding the significant socio-political event of the 1996 Ayyankali Pada protest, which was a landmark agitation for Adivasi land rights in Kerala. The film portrays a group of four men barging into a collector's office and holding him hostage to revolt against a controversial bill that exploits the rights of tribals. Building on memory studies frameworks (Olick, Landsberg), this research investigates Pada's representation of marginalized communities' memories and experiences through critical discourse analysis. Contextualizing the film narrative through historical documents and sociopolitical context, this study addresses the gap in films depicting accurate histories of marginalised communities.

The findings highlight how the film fosters empathy across social groups, reshapes cultural memory, and challenges dominant historical narratives. This research demonstrates digital storytelling's potential to reconfigure historical narratives and public memory. Moreover, it contributes to media studies, cultural studies, and social justice research, broadening its interdisciplinary relevance. Integrating Alison Landsberg's Prosthetic Memory theory, the study illustrates the power of digital storytelling in shaping cultural memory. Ultimately, this study underscores Pada's role in amplifying Adivasi voices and resisting oppression, contributing to ongoing discussions on memory, resistance, and social justice.
