The present study has been conducted on the corrosion mechanisms of mild steel and the impact of nitrilo trimethylene phosphonic (NTMP) acid as a corrosion inhibitor in a 10% HCl acidic environment. Various polymers and phosphonates have been integrated into inhibitor formulations for use in aqueous and acidic environments. The weight loss method and electrochemical techniques, including potentiodynamic and galvanostatic polarization measurements, were employed. Corrosion, though typically a long-term process, initially occurs at a faster rate, which gradually decreases over time. The above methods of assessing corrosion rates provide an average value over an extended period. Due to the versatility and low detection limits of the voltammetric methods, the researchers have developed a new voltammetric approach to determine corrosion rates immediately after some short periods like 5 min. The study presents the result of mild steel corrosion in a 10% HCl solution, with and without the NTMP inhibitor, at short intervals. It was found that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of NTMP is 93% after 24 hours. NTMP has been used as a corrosion inhibitor for the corrosion of Mild steel in acidic media found very good results. Its inhibition efficiency is 93% after 24h, thus it may be very useful for industrial applications.
