The
goal of this research is to look at Saudi Pidgin Arabic (SPA), which is one of
the linguistic varieties that has developed as a result of interactions between
Saudis and Asian employees. Requestive phrases uttered by two generations of
Saudi female speakers to female Asian workers in the cafeteria of a
governmental institute in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, were studied linguistically and
sociolinguistically. The study finds that the use of SPA is primarily limited
to the most basic forms of verb and noun phrases found in Najdi Arabic, the
SPA's lexifier language (which is spoken in the Arabian Peninsula's middle
region). The tendency of younger participants to use English terms demonstrates
the impact of English on the younger generation. A sociolinguistic analysis
also demonstrates the influence of social characteristics such as power,
status, social distance, and the requester's age.
